Welcome in Marco Anedda’s website
My name is Marco Anedda. I was born in Mandas (Sardinia), in 1946.
I am keen on railways and trains of all kinds and nationality. Since I live in the island of Sardinia, I use to travel on the narrow-gauge railways of this region.
My favourite passion is to videotape monuments, places and events of tourist and historic-cultural interest.
That is how I collected a great quantity of images used for my home- videos productions.
Less than twenty years ago, Sardinian Railways were almost unknown beyond the island and the local train spotters neglected them. Thanks to the improvement of some lines, which were candidate for dismantling, today our railway has become popular and appreciated even abroad. A growing number of tourists and train spotters chooses every year the special trip to explore the inland of Sardinia.
The reason of this success is due to the beautiful features of the lines, still unspoiled from their laying: they are extremely twisting and long the line the traveller can appreciate some amazing works like signalman’s houses, station viaducts and other railway engineering works.
The environmental context is another relevant aspect of this trip: it could be gentle or rough and wild at the same time.
On board these romantic historical steam engines, with its old carriage, we are plunged in a special atmosphere, whose rhythm is completely different from the one lived daily. The FDS railway network is divided in two kinds of lines: the Public Transport Lines and the Tourist Lines. The first ones are used especially in winter by students and workers, to reach their institutes and place of work.
The towns of Cagliari and Sassari have recently inaugurated a tramway service.
This web site, with the three videos dedicated to the Sardinian Railway, is my modest contribution to let know this special world.
